Written For my dead friend "Skater" Steve "The Baron" "Rose" McDonald
About my regrets in letting us drift apart after he moved to Glasgow from his short stay in Wick where we were a close group of friends.
My 2nd friend to die who acquired the nickname "The Baron", hence the title and leans to the EP title. I already wrote a song called the Baron ends with the same lyrics (lets have a drink for The Baron) almost a decade ago, parallels innit.
Fun little detail, the spoken word throughout the track is a one take I did where I just talked about good times with Steve like a weird non timed or scripted eulogy off the bat. Got the idea just impulsively and left it in.
lyrics
Have you ever had a holiday
I know you've been abroad but have ever had to switch off that brain
It's always ticking away your always over strained not letting any minute get away
Drink another one to numb the pain
Always running away from any open space
Do you think you'll forget it in time or is it always round the corner waiting for you to give up the climb
We've all got something to say but we can't get through
Same shit everyday got too much for you
I never held out my hand
And now there's one less left standing
I thought I'd write a post to say,
How I'm sorry and I hate how we never hung out after you left and moved south I never once went out to meet you
You never once reached out to me
The blame once went both ways but now its only me that's left with that burden
And that's fucking too much for Facebook.
Let's have a drink for the Baron, Let's have a drink for the Baron tonight.
